National Celebrities Appear in Second Film Opposing Gettysburg Casino Proposal
"The Gettysburg Address" underlines America's ongoing committment to this unique location
On the heels of the heels of the momentous two-day public hearing in Gettysburg, Penn., concerning a second attempt to bring a casino the doorstep of America’s most iconic battlefield, the Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT) has unveiled a second film underscoring the importance of protecting this hallowed ground.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Board is holding a public hearing on August 31 to solicit input on the Mason-Dixon Resorts, LP slot machine license application located in Gettysburg. The casino site is again located in very close proximity to the battlefield and it would be a mistake to proceed with this plan. The Gaming Board is looking for input before making their decision. State plans Civil War trails (Albany Herald On-line, GA)
[Georgia] bought more than 500 acres near Interstate 75 in Northwest Georgia in 2000 with plans to develop the site into a park commemorating the Battle of Resaca, the opening engagement of Union General William T. Sherman’s Atlanta campaign in 1864.

Only now, seven years after the purchase of Resaca, are Georgia lawmakers hoping to get the money flowing again. The 2008 budget adopted by the General Assembly last month includes $700,000 to begin developing Civil War trails and help state tourism officials start preparing for the upcoming 150th anniversary of the conflict.

Group ends efforts to buy Civil War battlefield (sotheast Missourian)
CARTHAGE, Mo. — A group that wanted to buy the land on which the Battle of Carthage was fought was not able to raise enough money and has abandoned the effort.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ — The Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT) will release an investigative report on the status of the nation's battlefields at a news conference on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. The report, entitled History Under Siege: America's Endangered Civil War Battlefields, will identify the ten most threatened Civil War sites in the country and what is being done to rescue them.

I haven't heard much about Beauvoir in a while. It looks like restoration work could begin in 30 days.
Beauvoir restoration set to begin soon (Biloxi Sun Herald)
Restoration of Beauvoir, the National Historic Landmark that was the retirement estate of Jefferson Davis, will begin within a month. If Richard Forte Sr. and other overseers of the historic 1850s Creole cottage damaged by Hurricane Katrina have their way, work will begin before the start-up date, by law 30 days after the signing of construction contract.
"We opened the construction bids at 2 p.m. on Jan. 9," said Forte, Beauvoir's interim director and chairman of Beauvoir's boards of trustee and directors. "All four contractors who bid have experience in historic restoration.
