CWPT Preservation Efforts Since July, 2006
I recently received my Winter 2006 edition of Hallowed Ground from the Civil War Preservation Trust. The recent CWPT preservation victories since July, 2006 include:
- Bentonville, NC - 34.3 acres in September. In July, the CWPT acquired 81.5 acres. This brings a total to over 900 acres saved with the CWPT preserving 600+ of those.
- Wilson's Creek, MO - 70 acre easement purchased in September.
- Perryville, KY - 54 acres purchased in September adding to the already 235 acre of the State Park.
- Fussell's Mill, VA (Second Deep Bottom) - 6.35 acres in September, which is the first land preserved at the battlefield.
- Frayser's Farm/Glendale, VA - 39.53 acres. The final $172,000 payment was made on October 31st.
Upcoming preservation projects include:
- Perryville, KY - 94 acres
- Richmond, KY - 300 acres
Also, as an update to the Slaughter Pen Farm at Fredericksburg, VA, the CWPT has now secured funding for $7M of the $12M purchase price. They have 5 years to pay off the $5M balance.
As always you can join the CWPT and its preservation efforts. See Get Involved on the CWPT's website.
